50 Years of Powwow

Powwow has long been a vital part of the Native American community, providing an opportunity to celebrate Native culture and pass on important traditions. In this engaging exhibition, forty-one beautiful color and black-and-white photographs portray the history of powwow in Chicago from past to present. Lively photographs depict the cultural exchange of powwow through dancing, singing, and building relationships.

This exhibition can be augmented with local collections to reflect powwows within host institutions’ own Native American communities.

50 Years of Powwow was conceived and organized by the American Indian Center of Chicago, and developed by The Field Museum.
